Swan

(swon.) [A. S.] (Zool.) See CYGNUS. Swan River, a considerable stream of W. Australia, taking its rise in S. Lat. 32° 30′, E. Lon. 1170, and falling into the Indian Ocean in Melville Bay, in S. Lat. 320, E. Lon. 115° 42′. It formerly gave its name to an English colony settled in 1829, and now called Western Australia. [s. 870]
