James Dewar ( 2 son of Rev. Thomas Bourd ill on, V. of Fenstanton, Hunts. who d. 11 March 1854 aged 82 ). b. 1811; ed. at Ramsgate and Haileybury college; writer in Madras civil service 1829; secretary to Board of revenue 1843; third member of Board of revenue 1855; secretary to Government revenue department 1859–60 when he became an annuitant on the Fund, resigned the service 1861; wrote report of commi ion which reported upon system of public works in Madras presidency; author of A short account of the measures proposed by the late Colonel J. T. Smith for the restoration of the Indian exchanges by an Ex-Madras civilian 1882. d. Tun bridge Wells 21 May 1883.
