—In engineering, a weight placed opposite a crank arm to balance the revolving weights and a certain proportion of those having a reciprocating action. On stationary and marine engines, it is fixed on the opposite side of the crank, but the usual custom with locomotives is to dispose of it upon the wheels near the rim.
