[Gr. ἀντί (anti) = opposed to, in the sense of rivalling; "Αρης ( Ares ), Ares, the Greek name of Mars. "Rivalling Mars" in its red colour.] A fixed star of the first magnitude, called also a Scorpion is, and Cor Scorpion is heart of the Scorpion. *an-tar-thrit-ic, *ăn-ar-thrit-ick, a. & 8. [Gr. ἀντί ( anti ) = against, and άρθρῶτις ( arthritis ) = gout.] A. As adjective: Suitable to be employed in gout. (Glo og. Nova.) B. As substantive : A medicine believed to be of use in the gout.
