Schism

(sizm.) [From Gr. schisma; from schizo, to cleave.] (Theol.) A division or separation in a church or society of Christians; or breach of unity among people of the same religious persuasion. Hence, one who separates from an established church or religious faith is termed a schismatic. [s. 802]
