Cybele

(sib'e-le,)called also RHEA. (Myth.) The daughter ofUranus and Terra, wife of Saturn, and mother of Jupiter and the other chief deities; hence her title of mother of the gods. She is commonly represented as riding in a chariot drawn by lions, with her brows crowned by a tower (Fig. 221), and sometimes with many breasts, as symbolical of the fecundity of the earth, and the prolific fountains of plenty it produces.
