Foucault Currents
Chandler's Encyclopedia · 1898 · p. 5
Eddy currents induced by the motion of a non-magnetic conducting body in a magnetic field. Foucault's experiment consisted in rotating a copper disk between the poles of a powerful electromagnet. The induced currents obey Lenz's law, and the mechanical energy expended in continuing the rotation is finally converted into heat, which raises the temperature of the disk.
