In mining, an It consists of a hollow globe made of platinum, so that it may resist exce ive heat, filled with air or gas, and connected with a bent gla tube, which holds at its bend water, mercury, or other liquid. The expansion by heat of the air within the globe exerts a pre ure upon the liquid, expansion, and therefore to which badly ventilated, and the foul air extracted. air-manometer (ar'ma-nom"e-ter), n. Same as air - gage. See manometer. measuring the quantity or rate of flow of air. air-meter (ar'mē"ter), n. An apparatus for Various devices are used, as bellows, cylinder and piston, and rotating buckets, in which capacities are constant, and fans and vanes, which measure the rapidity of flow through conduits of known sectional area, and therefore indicate the quantities pa ing in any given time.
