Cochlea

(kok’ ’-le-ah) [kox^oc, a conch-shell]. A cavity of the internal ear resembling a snail-shell. It describes two and a half turns about a central pillar called the modiolus or column ell a, forming the spiral canal, about \y2 inches in length. See also Ear. Cochlear, or 198
