aerology

The American Dictionary and Cyclopedia · 1910 · p. 10
[In Fr. aérologie, fr. Gr. ἀήρ (αν) = the air; λόγος ( logos ) = a dis course.] The science which treats of the air. When little could be done in this department of knowledge except to record facts, aerography (a writing about or a description of the air) was an appropriate enough name; but now that the causes of many aërial phenomena are becoming known, aërology (a discourse or reasoning about the air) is the more suitable term.
