RUBEOLA

The measles. This disease is preceded by fever, with swelling and inflammation of the eyes; <in oppre ive cough; and about the fourth day there is an eruption of small red points, perceptible to the touch, which continues for four or five days, and then goes off with desquamation of the cuticle; but the fever, cough, sorene of the eyes, and irritable state of bowels are apt to continue for some time after the entire disappearance of the eruption. The most alarming cases are those in which the inflammatory symptoms and fever run very high, and which sometimes require bleeding, or blisters and cupping upon the chest; or in which there is a putrid tendency, with a dark livid colour.
