Sugar packed in chests, and covered over with fine clay. tub-thumper (tub'thumper), n. A violent or gesticulating preacher; one who employs violent action to give the effect or appearance of earnestne to his sermons. [Slang.] tub-thumping (tub'thumping), a. Ranting. [Slang.] Very modest gifts, belonging to what may be called the tub - thumping school of oratory, have been known to fill a large church with eager congregations. Contemporary Rev., LIV. 253.
