The stalk, or stem, of certain species of grain. S., In the, in childbed; lying in; parturient. S. -berry Mark. Same as Xu-i'its maternus. S. -berry Tongue, the characteristic tongue of scarlet fever. The ve els of the fungiform papillae become turgid, causing the papillae to stand out as red points, in marked contrast with the thick coating of fur on the filiform papiltee.
