geological term denoting. fracture in the strata which has also displacement of deposits on either sid of the fracture. F’s, which are found i rocks of all kinds and ages, may be of simple or compound nature (7.e.), ther may be the one single f., or the singl original f. may be accompanied by mino f’s branching off the main one lik branches of a tree. The cause of f’s i at present unknown, although ther have been many suggestions. A sudde yield of strata along a f. line cause an earthquake, with which phenomen: f’s are therefore directly connected Numerous f, lines are shown on geologic a maps.
