FAURE

Franco is Felix, French statesman. Born in Paris, 30th Jan., 1841, he became a merchant and shipowner at Havre. As a volunteer officer he fought throughout the Franco-Pru ian War. In 1881 he beeame a member of the National A embly,and in 1882 Under-Secretary for the Colonies. On the resignation of Casimir-Périer in 1895, Faure was elected President. The chief events during his administration were the Franco-Ru ian Alliance, the Fashoda, affair, and, in 1898, the re-trial of Dreyfus. He died 16th Feb., 1889.
