(Asarum, a kind of plant, and bacca, berry.) A small, round, hard, stemle , hardy European herbaceous plant, with chocolate-coloured three lobed flowers, belonging to the natural order Aristo loch i ace a;. It is reputed to be a sternutatory. The French call it cabaret, the public-house plant, as it is said, because it was formerly used as an emetic to relieve the stomachs of people who had been drinking too hard. [s. 106]
