Oettingen, Alexander

von, Magister Theol., D.D. (both Dorpat, 1854 and 1856 respectively), Luther an theologian; b. at Wi ust, near Dorpat, Ru ia (Livonia), Dec. 24, 1827; studied theology at Dorpat, 1845-49, then at Erlangen and Berlin; became privat-docent at Dorpat, 1854; declined call to Erlangen; became profe or extraordinary at Dorpat, 1856, and the same year ordinary profe or of systematic theology, history of doctrines, and ethics. During 1861 and 1862 he was at Meran on account of the illne of his wife, a daughter of Profe or Karl von Raumer of Erlangen and, as pastor of the Evangelical Diaspora Congregation, there built its first Protestant chapel.
