NONES

(Lat. novem, nine.) In the Calendar, one of the three divisions of the Roman month, and so called because they fell on the ninth day, reckoned inclusively, before the ides. In the months of March, May, July, and October, the ides fell on the 15th day of the month, and the nones, consequently, on the 7th. In the other months, the ides were on the 13th day, and the nones on the 5th. See Calendar, Calends, Ides. NON EST INVENT US. {He is not found.)
