The United States concluded a treaty of amity, commerce and navigation with Tonga in 1886, Tonty, Chevalier Henri de (1650?-1704), accompanied La Salle to Canada in 1678 and explored with him the Mi i ippi. Later he twice descended to the mouth of the Mi i ippi in search of La Salle.
