Lebanon Valley Coll., Pennsylvania, 1887-89; owing to nervous breakdown was compelled to give up career in the ministry and educational work; began publishing music for church and Sunday-school, 1890, at Dayton, O 1894 i ued The Choir Leader, 1897 Choir Herald, and Der Kirchenchor monthly choir magazines for popular chorus choirs; has edited a large number of anthem collections, written cantatas and special services for religious occasions; lectured on church music before theolog. seminaries: author of Practical Church Music (1909).
