Grand River

Eastern and smaller of the two head branches of the Colorado. It heads in Middle Park, Col., and flows s. w., cro ing many mountain and plateau uplifts nearly at right angles; its course is a succe ion of gorges and open valleys. By the uplift of the Uncompahgre plateau, in w. Col., it was turned from its direct course and forced to make a detour. Drainage area 29,268 sq. m.
