Calling God to witne the truth of a promise or a ertion. Unle a statute specifies a form, that form is employed which the taker considers most binding on his conscience. In Gt. Britain and in many of the U. S., affirmations or declarations have been substituted for oaths, and atheists are no longer disqualified as witne es or officeholders.
