(hon., Halle and Tubingen, 1883), German theologian; b. at Bunzlau, Silesia, Feb. 25, 1847; studied at Berlin, 1863-66 became a istant preacher in St. Lucas', Berlin, 1870; pastor at Langheinersdorf, Brandenburg, 1871; at Klemzig, 1876; profe or and geistlicher Inspector am Kloster U. I. Frauen, and president of the theological seminary, Magdeburg, 1882; ordinary profe or of pastoral theology, Kiel, 1886. In 1883 he participated with the archivist Jacobs and Prof. Dr. Koestlin in founding the Verein fur Reformations Geschichte, of which he has since been the editor., He is the author of Johann Agricola von Eisleben, Berlin, 1881; Caspar Giittel.* Ein Lebensbild aus Luther's Freundeskreise, Halle, 1882; five articles against Jan en in Zeitschrift fiir kirchl.
