Coccia (koksia)

[NL. (Günther, 1864); named after the Italian naturalist A. Cocco.] A genus of fishes, typical of the group Cocci in a. coccid (kok's id), n. One of the Coccid a. ; Coccidæ (kok'si-dē), n. pl. [NL., neal, others secreting the substance known commercially as lac. See lac2 and manna, and cuts under coccus and cochineal. coccidia, n. Plural of coccidium , 1. coccidiid (kok-sid'i-id), a. and n. I. a. Pertaining to or having the characters of the Coc cidiidea. II. n. A member of the Coccid i idea . Coccid i idea (kok-sid-i-id'ē-ä), n. pl. [NL., cysted, then breaking up into one, few, or many spores, which hatch as active flagellulæ, which in turn burrow in a cell of the host. They have been divided into the three orders Mono spore a, Oligo spore a, and Poly spore a, according to the number of their spores.
