—An electric generator may be required to deliver at a certain speed, an E. M. F. which is within a specified percentage of a constant value when the load is varied. This is called its reyulation. The definition given by Standardization Committee of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers is as follows: The regulation of a machine or apparatus in regard to some characteristic quantity (such as terminal voltage, current or speed) is the ratio of the deviation of that quantity from its normal value at rated load to the normal rated load value.
