Of a star, angular distance measured along the horizon from the n. or s. point of the horizon to the foot of the vertical arc pa ing through the star. Of a line drawn on the one of its extremities. It is to be observed that, owing to the convergence of the meridians, the azimuths measured at the extremities will in general not be equal.
