SCORPIURUS

(Lat.), n. m. and f. Skoarp-i2-uar(ur)'u (u4s). From oxopn-iof, a scorpion, and ovpa, a tail. Fr., scorpiure. Ger., Scorpion chwanz. Scorpion's-tail, caterpillar-plant; a genus of leguminous herbs, [a. 35.] S. muricatus, S. subvillosa, S. sulcata. Three species found in southern Europe, formerly used (on account of the resemblance of their pods to a scorpion's tail) in stings from scorpions, [a, 35.] S. vermiculatus. Fr., chenille ecailleuse.
