[Lat. quint ( us )=fifth.] Music : (1) The interval of a fifth. (2) An organ stop, sounding a fifth above the foundation stops, of 54 ft. length on the manuals, 103 ft. on the pedal. It should not be used without a double diapason, to which it forms the second natural harmonic, or twelfth. It is sometimes used on the pedal organ without a double diapason (32 ft.), but with questionable effect.
