Radix

(ra'diks.) [L., a root.] (Bot.) The root; the descending axis; that part which is the development of a radicle. It differs from a stem not only in its origin, but in not branching symmetrically, and having no normal leaf-buds.-(Etymol.) An etymon, or primitive word, from which spring other words.-(Algeb.) The root of a finite expre ion, from which a series is derived. [s. 751]
