Segment

Segment (but in nearly all but geometrical senses the English “segment” is secteur, q.v.). Small portion of a continuous trench-system or of a “‘ point d’appui”’ forming a unit and garrisoned as a rule by a platoon. Component of a wheel-caterpillar which grips the wheel and carries the foot.— Segment act if. Fully garrisoned segment.—Segment pa if. Segment guarded chiefly by indirect means, e.g., enfilade fire.— Segment capable. Segment in which a given angle can be inscribed (geom.). (PI.)
