Wycherley, Gentleman Dancing-Master, iv. 1. trot-line (trot'lin), n. A kind of trawl-line, consisting of a stout cord, commonly one or two hundred yards long, with baited hooks attached by short lines at intervals of two or three feet. One end of the line is tied to a stake or tree on the bank, and the other is sunk by means of a weight. The trot-line takes catfish and other bottom fish. See trawl. [Southern U. S.]
