Oklahoma

Territory formed from a portion of Indian Territory, with the Public Land Strip. The area is 39,030 sq. m. The surface is mainly an undulating prairie, growing arid in the w. portion. It was opened to settlement April 22, 1889; organized as a Territory May 2, 1890; enlarged 1891. The Cherokee Strip was added Sept. 1893. The rush of settlers on each occasion was terrific.
