SIBYL

The name given to certain prophetic women, said to have lived in early ages in Greece and Italy. Some authors recount as many as ten of them. The most celebrated were the Sibyl of" Cuma;, fabled to have been consulted by Apneas, and the prophete who offered her books to Tarquin the Proud.
