Eurydice

Nymph, wife of the poet Orpheus. She died of a serpent's bite; Orpheus followed her to the lower world, and by the charms of his lyre won her back from Pluto, on condition that he should not look back upon her till they had reached the upper world. At the last moment his anxiety caused him to look around, and he saw her caught back to the infernal regions.
