Nettle-Cells

Occurring on the tentacles, mesenteries, etc., of cælenterates for purposes of defense and the procuring of food. Each contains a coiled thread which is released on irritation and shot into the intruder's body. They are also called thread-cells and nematocysts. Nettle Rash. See HIVES and URTICARIA.
