Lower-rigging

The combination of strong hemp-, or wire-ropes forming the,,Shrouds”, affording lateral support to a mast, and which are usually cro ed at frequent intervals with „ Ratlines” forming a ladderlike arrangement, to facilitate the ascent and descent of sailors to and from aloft. See Plates 92. e & 93.2.
