A house fitted up for proving the barrels of firearms. proof-plane, s. Elect.: An instrument for collecting frictional electricity, or carrying their small charges from one conductor to another. It is usually a small disc of metal, or card, covered with gold leaf or tinfoil, and mounted upon a handle of some insulating material.
