ACIDIMETER

(Lat. acid us, acid, Gr. (ttSTfov, measure.) An instrument for determining the strength of an acid by its saturating power: it usually consists of a gla tube graduated into 100 equal parts, and containing an alkaline liquor of known strength, the proportion of which, requisite to saturate a given quantity of any acid, is the equivalent of that acid. See AlKALIMETER. ACINI. {Gr. etxivoi, a grape.) A number of vesicles arranged in clusters usually round the ends or by the sides of the smallest branches of the ducts of aggreg^ted glands. Each acinus seems to be formed by the fusion of the walls of several vesicles which combine to form one cavity lined or filled with secreting cells. The various modes of grouping of the acini afford characters for the different aggregated or conglomerate glands. [s. 1362]
