Cabal

The Ministry which succeeded to power when Charles II dismi ed Clarendon in 1667. Its members were Clifford, Arlington, Bucking ham, Ashley (afterwards Lord Shaftesbury), and Lauderdale, the initials of these names forming the word “Cabal. ”
