streps i ceros

[Lat., from Gr. strep sikerōs = prob. the addax (q. v.); strepho, fut. strep so=to twist, and keras =a horn.] Zool.: Koodoo (q. v.); the type-genus of Streps iceræ (q. v.), with spiral-keeled horns. There is a single species, Streps i ceros kudu , often included in the genus Tragelaph us. Sir Victor Brooke, in his arrangement of the revised family Bovidæ, has a subfamily (Tragelaphine) of the same extent as the old Streps iceræ. 3884
