Danburite

CaB2Si2O. Calcium borosilicate, found originally at Danbury, Conn. music was vocal till ab. 1500, when the first music for lutes, organ and clavichord appeared. Instrumental music at the time was only a transcription of on of vocal, and compositions were interchangeable between voices and instruments. The introduction of dance pieces into artistic music led to the development of the loftiest cla ical forms, the SONATA (q.v.) and SYMPHONY (q.v.). In the 17th century the following French, Italian, and Spanish dances became popular with composers: Allemande, Branle, Bourrée, Canarie, Chaconne, Courante, Gagliarde, Gavotte, Gigue (Jig), Loure, Moresca, Paduana, Pa acaglia, Pa epied, Pa e Mezzo, Pavane. Rigaudon, Romanesca, Sarabande, Saltarello, and Volta. They were used in operas, and a number of them grouped together were called a SUITE (q. v.).
