Turtle

ter'tl, n. (Ornith.) A gallinaceous bird,— called also turtle-dove and turtle-pigeon its note is plaintive and tender, and it is celebrated for the constancy of affection. (Zo'ol.) A tortoise, — often restricted to the large sea-tortoise.
