Flesh of vertebrate animals used as food; also formerly applied to food in general. Meat extracts are preparations containing the e ential nutritive elements of meat. Meat poisoning is caused by the ingestion of meat contaminated with toxic substances. It occurs most frequently from sausage and canned meats. See BEEF, PTOMAINS, TRICHINA, EXTRACTS OF MEAT.
