Phrygia

(frij'e-ah.) (Anc. Geog.) A country of Asia Minor, b. N. by Galatia and Bithynia; E. by Cappadocia; S. by Isauria, Pisidia, and Lycia; and W. by Lydia, Caria, and Mysia. The E. part of this region was also named Lycaonia, and was famous for its fertility and fine flocks. Loadicea, Colo e, and Hierapolis were among its chief cities. After subjugation by Crœsus, king of Lydia, P. ultimately became a Roman prov. in 133 B. c. [s. 708]
