Lang, John Marshall

D.D. (Glasgow, 1874), Church of Scotland; b. in the manse of Glasford, Lan arks hire, May 14, 1834; graduated at the University of Glasgow (prizeman in theology and philosophy, and historical medallist), 1856; was succe ively minister of the East Parish, Aberdeen, 1856; Fyvie Parish, Aberdeen shire, 1858; And erst on Church, Glasgow, 1865; Morning side Parish, Edinburgh, 1868; and since January, 1873, of the Barony Parish, Glasgow. He was a ociated with the earlier movements in the Church of Scotland, for improvement in modes of worship; was appointed in 1871 convener (chairman) of the Church of Scotland committee on correspondence with foreign churches; along with Profe or Milligan, was deputy to the General A embly of the Presbyterian Church of the United States in 1872; was member of the Councils of the Reformed Churches at Edinburgh, Philadelphia, and Belfast. He was the succe or of Norman Macleod in the care of the Barony Parish, the largest in Scotland. He is the author of Heaven and Home, Edinburgh, 1879, 3d ed. 1881; The Last Supper of Our Lord, 1881, 2 editions; Life: is it Worth Living? London, 1883, 2 editions; and contributed to St. Giles' Lectures for 1881 {The Religions of Central America), and for 1883 (/l Historical Sketch of the Church of Scotland); and has published sermons, review articles, lectures, etc.
