(arkh-én-té’-na), La (stage name of Antonia Mercé) Buenos Aires—Bayonne, France, July 18, 1936; noted dancer, esp. famed for her perf. of Spanish dances and remarkable skill in playing on castanets; her parents were members of the R. Op. ballet, Madrid, of which she became prima ballerina at 19; later made world tours with great succ., incl. United States Aria (a’-ri-a), Cesare, Bologna, 1820— 1894; singing-teacher.
