A genus of fishes of the order Plectognath i, and the family Balistidæ. ǎl-vě-ar-ỹ, *ǎl-vě-ar-ie, s. [In Ital alveario; Lat. alvearium and alveare = a bellying ve el, a bee-hive; from alveus = a cavity, a hollow ve el; alvus = the belly.] 1. A bee-hive ( lit. & fig .). ( Barret .) 2. Anat.: The hollow of the external ear, or the bottom of the concha, in which the cerumen, or wax, is deposited. ǎl-vě-a-těd, a. [Lat, alveatus = hollowed out like a trough.] Formed like a bee-hive; of the same shape as a bee-hive.
