FESCUE

the popular name of a genus of gra es (iesttica) belonging to the division with many-flowered spikelets on long stalks. Amongst the numerous.species are some of the most valuable meadow and pasture gra es of Britain. F. pratensis, or meadow fescue, and FF. duriuscula or hard fescue, are both highly prized for agricultural purposes. FF. ovina, or sheep’s fescue, is much smaller than either of these, and is useful for lawns. Tt is abundant in mountain pastures. #, elatior, the tall fescue, is a coarse reedy gra with stem usually 4 or 5 feet high. All these species are perennial.
