D.D. (Hamilton College, Clinton, N.Y., 1873), Presbyterian; b. at And over, Conn., Sept. 4, 1816; graduated at Hamilton College, Clinton, N.Y., 1841, and at Princeton (N.J.) Theological Seminary, 1844; was mi ionary in China, at Macao, Chusan, and Ningpo, from 1844 to 1850, when his health failed; and mi ionary among the Creek Indians at Kowetah, 1852-53; stated supply at St. Charles, Mo., 1853- 54; at Edging ton, 111., 1854-59; but since 1859 has been mi ionary to the Chinese in San Francisco, Cal.
