[G. aither, ether.] (U.S. and Br.). Ether, a liquid containing 96 per cent, by weight of absolute ether (Br., 92 per cent, by volume of ethyl oxide). Employed by inhalation to produce general anesthesia; internally as a stimulant and carminative in doses of TtRio-60 (0.6-4.0). See also ether, ee. ace'tic us (N.F. and Br.), acetic ether, containing ethyl acetate 90, alcohol 10; stimulant and antispasmodic, dose nES-30 (0.3-2.0). ae. purifica'tus (Br.), purified ether; the B.P. directs that it should a ume no blue color when mixed with half its volume of pota ium bichromate acidulated with sulphuric acid, showing absence of hydrogen peroxide nor should it be colored by pota iiun hydroxide, showing absence of aldehyde; on evaporation it should leave no residue or abnormal odor.
